Flying Nun celebrates 30 years

So turns out we are 30 this year and thought we should hold a party or two to celebrate. With over 20 shows throughout New Zealand during November, the anniversary features both past and present Flying Nun acts, along with some very special guests paying tribute to our 30 years.

While, it wouldn’t be a party without live music, we also have a bunch of new releases and re-releases out soon on CD, digitally and Vinyl. Plus an exciting handful of new bands signed to the label.

Legendary Flying Nun bands THE CLEAN (Arch Hill/Merge), HDU, THE BATS and GHOSTCLUB will all be touring throughout NZ this November.

To launch the month in Auckland (Friday Nov 4) and Wellington (Sat Nov 5) we have a showcase of the new Flying Nun with performances from Grayson Gilmour, Popstrangers, T54, Surf Friends – and more to be announced.

While down south, F IN MATH and turntabilist Alphabethead launch their tour which promises to include an interesting mix of Flying Nun covers, having given Alphabethead a selection of Flying Nun vinyl to cut up, re-mix and re-write.

There will also be a series of Flying Nun Records Tribute Nights across the country and Australia, featuring some well-known characters and local acts.

In turn, there will be some very special releases, including ‘Tally Ho!’ – a double disc 30 Year ‘Best Of’ compilation.

The brilliant 8th Studio album from THE BATS ‘Free The Monsters’ will be released on 17th October.

Vinyl re-releases of the debut albums by The BatsDaddy’s Highway and The 3DsHellzapoppin and singles from our new signings: Pop Strangers, Surf Friends and T54 with more to be announced.

We are also working on ‘Time to Go’ – a double LP compilation exploring the label’s early South Island History, along with a complete vinyl compilation of the Pin Group’s material, and re-releases of HDU’s ‘Metamathics’ (originally released through Shoot The Freak Records) and The Shocking Pinks first album ‘Dance, the Dance Electric’ (originally released through Pinacolada Records).

In the long tradition of Flying Nun Records birthday celebrations, this year EPIC BEER are making us a 30 Year Ale. Available at the shows and selected supermarkets in November.
